Computational fluency is more than speed, memorization, or isolated procedures. True fluency develops when students reason about numbers, select efficient strategies, and apply understanding flexibly and accurately. In this session, participants explore 10 essential ideas for developing meaningful computational fluency through reasoning, strategy development, purposeful practice, and effective instruction.

Outcomes:

  • Articulate what computational fluency is, the facts and myths about it, and what can be done to help students become fluency.
  • Reinforce professional knowledge to set the foundation for critical fluency strategies in the coming sessions.
